Scrap the age banding and Apprentice rate and raise the minimum wage to a genuine £10/hour

The UK Green Party long proposed raising the minimum wage to a genuine £10/hr, this will ensure people in full time work earn around £2,000/month, that’s £24,000/year.

Not every young person still live with their parents, some young people even leave home at a young age however the current Government treat young people in a way which suggests they don’t need as much money to live on.

The Apprentice rate which is applied to state Apprenticeship schemes is reducing the amount of people willing to take up skilled work. More skilled workers means less demand for skilled workers across all sectors.

The current minimum wage of £8.21 is not in-line with current inflation leaving people without cars, encouraging people to take up overtime and encouraging people to work long hours.

People in part time work do not earn enough to survive, instead they’ve to take up several jobs. As the current minimum wage stands, an average part time cleaning job leaves people with around £656.80/month however they would be left with a genuine £800/month if the minimum wage was raised to £10/hr.

Full time work isn’t always suitable for people with disabilities, some people feel they can do a bit of work, but feel that full time work is too much. Everyone should have access to work without having to live on a substandard amount of income.
